"You're deep inside my heart,
And in my thoughts you dwell."
If I Had A Star
When there was no gift to give, he gave her his words instead.

Running time: 5 minutes 4 seconds
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
If I had a star for every time
I fell in love with you
The entire sky would be mine by now
And that I know is true
You're deep inside my heart
And in my thoughts you dwell.
Our togetherness keeps love blooming
More than words can tell.
[Chorus]
If I had a star for every smile,
For every dream we've known,
I'd fill the night with endless light
Until the dark had gone.
And if this world should ask me where
My greatest treasure's far from home,
I'd simply point towards your heart...
Because that's where I've found my own.
Every year has brought us closer,
Every season played its part.
Time may leave its mark upon us,
But never on our hearts.
[Chorus]
If I had a star for every smile,
For every dream we've known,
I'd fill the night with endless light
Until the dark had gone.
And if this world should ask me where
My greatest treasure's far from home,
I'd simply point towards your heart...
Because that's where I've found my own.
[Bridge]
Life has never promised easy roads,
Or skies that stayed forever blue.
But every path I've ever walked
Has somehow led to you.
So if tomorrow finds us older,
And silver finds our hair,
I'll still look at you the way I did
The first day you were there.
[Final Verse]
In our journey of life I'll always know
You'll never be alone.
When my arms can be your shelter,
And my heart can be your home.
That way we'd live together
for all the world to see
our love is for each other
together you and me.
[Final Chorus]
If I had a star for every smile,
For every dream we've known,
I'd fill the night with endless light
Until the dark had gone.
And if this world should ask me where
My greatest treasure's ever shone,
I'd simply look into your eyes...
And know that I am home.
[refrain]
If I had a star for every time
I fell in love with you
The entire sky would be mine by now
And that I know is true
Behind the Song
If I Had a Star was the first poem Paul ever wrote. With an anniversary approaching and little money for a present, he decided instead to put his feelings into words and give Tara something that couldn't be bought. What began as a simple, personal gift became the unexpected starting point for his writing.
Years later, that first poem became a song — turning a private expression of love into the beginning of another journey. In many ways, everything that followed can be traced back to that one anniversary, one poem and one star.

The Original Poem
If I Had A Star.
If I Had A Star For Every Time
I Fell In Love With You
The Entire Sky Would Be Mine By Now
And That I Know Is True
You’re Deep Inside My Heart
And In My Thoughts You Dwell
Our Togetherness Keeps Love Blooming
More Than Words Can Tell
In Our Journey Of Life I’ll Always Know
You’ll Never Be Alone
When My Arms Can Be Your Shelter
And My Heart Can Be Your Home
